I have seen a client today who has Red Mite in his chicken coop, which is next to (but not touching) his rabbit hutch and run, which contains 2 rabbits and 4 guinea pigs. They don't appear to be puritic but he is understandably concerned about

RE: Red Mite in Rabbits

Funnily enough I had a client come in with a similar problem today except it was on the cats. Apparently they were seeing the mites on the cats fur. They are already treating the environment. I suggested they could apply an advocate but I did not know for certain if it would kill the mites.

RE: Red Mite in Rabbits

Rather than spraying with Indorex or similar, I advise hanging a Vapona fly strip in the coop/hutch during the day when the occupants are outdoors but take away when they are in at night to avoid possible toxic effects.

RE: Red Mite in Rabbits

They live in the housing anyway, coming out at night to feed from the chickens. I'm sure they would bite rabbits - they certainly jump on humans who go near infested coops. I'd treat the rabbit housing as well as the chicken housing just in case? Good clean, dry, good dusting of diatomaceous earth and good spray of Indorex. Bugger to get rid of but consistent application of DE (Indorex should last 3 months) should sort it? Lots of other treatments discussed online for housing....don't need to treat animals.
