Plenty of tonics available - try apollovet or a seaweed powder (rice in trace elements and b vitamins).

Yes, very healthy. I also think that trace mineral requirements in adult dogs are probably met very easily...even tap water will contain a lot if them. Thank-you.

Reminds a bit of cats that are brought up vegetarian with a "vegetarian cat supplement" which is, of course, taurine-rich meat byproducts

Ref OP, no-one really knows the vitamin requirements of dogs (same as people in fact, the evidence is very weak), they have evolved as scavengers and they likely replace trace elements through eating grass, vegetation, soil etc. If it's well otherwise, let it be.

If they hadn't given him jam sandwiches in the first place he wouldn't have known they existed. Anyway, still sounds like an urban myth to me.

Parents should have been locked away for neglect.

Have you ever tried Tails.com tailor made food? I've not used them, just done a cpd but wonder if they can make something up? Also would be interested if anyone has used them and what they think?

Suggest owner slip a bit of what she eats each day off her plate onto the floor. Bet the dog eats that. She may be doing that already of course w/o realising, it of course.

There is a famous case of a boy who refuse to eat anything but jam sandwiches until he was 15 years old. He was 6ft1in and astoundingly appeared to develop normally. Don't know if his mum laced them with vitamin drops though...

I would be steadfast and tell her in no uncertain way that the dog will develop a dietary deficiency which could even prove fatal. I wouldn't play games with vitamin supplements unless its been proven beyond doubt there is no alternative available complete diet.

No..just one elderly lady with a pampered pooch. She is steadfast...but does realise it's deficiencies so I'm just compromising.
