Bloody diarrhoea resolved with symptomatic treatment, but dog still lethargic.

There is a form of IMHA that targets red cell precursors. Cockers are predisposed. Normally get a non regenerative anaemia.

Reach for the roids?
Interesting. Would you not get an inflammatory leukogram though? Not present in this case.
I saw a dog a couple of years ago that had immune-mediated destruction of red blood cell precursors. His PCV dropped from 26% to 21% over about 2 weeks, fibrinogen was elevated, but bloods were otherwise unremarkable, including normal white cell counts. I did bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and the diagnosis was made on those. He was treated with prednisolone and azathioprine, but also had a blood transfusion as his PCV dropped to 12%. He responded to treatment and did well for a couple of months, but as the doses were gradually dropped he started to become anaemic again, doses were increased and he improved, I also introduced cyclosporin, but then he started to become anaemic on the higher doses so was euthanased.

RE: 4yr FN Cocker Spaniel with moderate/severe anaemia and mild azotaemia
Not always. I've only seen a couple, one did, one didn't. Need bone marrow biopsy to confirm.

Realistically, your treatment options for this are limited though, so I'd be trying this dog on some c/St.

RE: 4yr FN Cocker Spaniel with moderate/severe anaemia and mild azotaemia
Always worry with hypercalcemia for neoplasia esp lymphoma; Maybe worth chasing the calcium if still high.
