There have been reports of refeeding syndrome in cats but there were abnormalities of electrolytes, glucose or hepatic enzymes. Could it be feline cerebrocorticonecrosis/encephalopathy? A coincidental infection such as toxoplasma or FIP, or inflammation - meningoencephalitis? Depends on how far the owners want to go with further investigation and whether referral is an option. Otherwise supportive treatment and hope. Have seen something very similar years ago late on a Friday night, costs an issue so gave clindamycin, steroids (!), fluids and hand fed and by Monday when the cavalry were due he was fine.

We had a few cases with similar sounding neuro signs, especially the stiff limbs, falling onto face etc several years ago - actually twice with several years gap between. All were adult/young adult male outdoor cats in rural areas. One had high toxo titres (rest weren't tested as far as I remember - cost). Never got to the bottom of it, sorry as most deteriorated and were pts. The one with high toxo titres did respond to clindamycin and preds and made a full recovery.

RE: Collapsed cat 4 days after being missing for 8 days

I believe refeeding syndrome has only ever been shown in humans and some very unusual experiments in possibly dogs.
