I've just had a long discussion with a client about reproductive testing which has severely tested my limits of knowledge and I'm looking for opinions/advice please. The client is a breeder who really just wants to get all the testing done she

RE: Repro testing help please!
would you recommend testing for both male and female or just stud dog?
Just the stud dog if the female never travelled.
Laboklin seem to test for an awful lot of breeding issues
As with everything else it matters what they are testing for. I generally recommend AHT as with Laboklin I noticed inconsistencies. For example they sell a PKD test for Miniature Bull Terriers but the disease has never been diagnosed in this breed. They also sell a PKD test for Bull Terriers but there are no positive cases found yet. But they keep selling them and breeders keep paying for irrelevant tests.
What I would probably encourage to do is a Leishmania test, I just had a 3 year old dog testing positive even though he was asymptomatic and in UK for over 2 years now. We were meant to send his semen to Australia this is how we found out. Can be transmitted through semen.
- would you recommend testing for both male and female or just stud dog?
Most breedings dogs and bitches will have Herpes, If I remember well there was a study done in Sweden about 80% of dogs were positive. Just vaccinate.

Brucella, no point for a UK dog but may occur in European dogs. The test makes sense only if she uses frozen semen, she can test at the time of collection.

TVD, don't worry about them, affected dogs have some obvious cauliflowery tumour on their penis and prepuce, can't miss it. But they are common in stray dogs in East Europe, I saw loads in Romania.

Not sure the answer to the first part, but when we've tested for Brucella canis it's been for export and done by the VLA lab

RE: Repro testing help please!

Laboklin seem to test for an awful lot of breeding issues
