We had a suspected asthmatic cat in for a BAL last week and when it was sedated in the kennel some watery amber liquid leaked from its rear end. Urine right? But when we got it out the nurse said its coming from its rectum

RE: Cat with rectal-ectopic ureter???

Coolest surgery ever - Makes u envy human surgeons, feel really bad for the patients with bladder cancer though - prob is they have to catheterize themselves daily as there are no nerves to actually stimulate contraction, can somewhat manage a bit with abdominal muscles. https://www.uclh.nhs.uk/PandV/PIL/Patient%20information%20leaflets/Neobladder.pdf

RE: Cat with rectal-ectopic ureter???
a rectal ureter
We see occasional fistula cases often as part of investigations into recurrent urinary tract infection. These tend to be rectourethral or rectovaginal fistulas more often than ureteral. A decent contrast study should show you.

What I would say is that these can be challenging to manage so if discovered incidentally in an otherwise normal animal we may be able to just monitor in the first instance.
