Not heard of this but Summit have Tramadol tablets which is at least veterinary specific if not actually licenced.

My personal experience and the advice from several specialists is that it is of limited use at best if at all, it doesn't even work in me let alone a dog. as others have said it adds nothing to what we already have and is proven to be effective.

It's been licensed via the mutual recognition pathway - by which other EU member states rely on the assessment of the medicinal product by an original single member state and accept its evaluation as the basis for their own national decision. This was the route used for metronidazole tablets (Metrobactin), which was done via the Netherlands. I was interested to see the data on that so I contacted the Dutch agency to ask for the public assessment report, which they sent me. But it just showed me that the assessment was a generic application based on another metronidazole product (for which there is no public assessment report available yet). I suspect it's a similar story for tramadol.

Andrea - how come there is no EMEA stuff on it? The SPC even mentions variable effect!

I thought tramadol's primary MOA was spinal cord noradrenaline and serotonin reputake inhibition. Opioid activity is of secondary importance and some dogs can't metabolise it to the active opioid form? So scores better for some cases of neuropathic pain. There was an article about in in BSAVA companion a while ago.

The company (LeVetPharma) says they plan to market Tralieve injection - and tablets (although tablets don't seem to have been authorised yet) - in the UK later this year (Q4). The injection has been authorised on the basis of mutual recognition of authorisation in another European member state so it's not as easy as usual to get hold of the summary of evidence on which the licence is based.

I have read about it somewhere, but cannot think where it would really be useful given that we already have Buphrenorphine and Methadone available to us?

I'm struggling to see a use, personally. I'm not sure would do anything useful that butorphanol for example wouldn't?

What about ropinirole eye drops for inducing emesis? I've never had any complaints with apomorphine, so hard to improve on that record, but interested in thoughts.
