I have a patient who develops GI signs when given any of the common NSAID's eg meloxicam, firocoxib(previcox), robenacoxic(onsior), caprofen(rimadyl) etc. Worried of the long term

RE: Long term use of Pardale-V (paracetamol+codeine)

Yes, frequently, often in conjunction with NSAID and/or tramadol. I usually go with the BSAVA formulary dose of 10mg/kg to start, but am happy to increase if not effective at this dose. Never knowingly seen any problems.

Sounds crazy to give a long-acting NSAID in a dog that hasn't tolerated other NSAIDs, but I think a lot of these are not tolerating the NSAID hitting their GI tract every day rather than the systemic adverse effects of COX-inhibition.

RE: Long term use of Pardale-V (paracetamol+codeine)
Has anyone used Pardale-V for the long term management of osteoarthritis.
Yes. Lots. At full label dose either bid or tid for many years with zero problems. Usually in conjunction with NSAIDs. Off licence but fine and very effective.

RE: Long term use of Pardale-V (paracetamol+codeine)

Yes, occasionally.

I have an ongoing case in one of my regular practices, an old Labrador with spondylosis where nsaid's and Tramadol don't suit him, and he's doing reasonably well on a combination of pred and pardale-v at an sid rather tid dose.

It is only licenced for acute traumatic pain, or post operatively for a maximum of 5 days of course, so off label with a signed disclaimer.
