Thank you David, it's the rehab I'm most worried about. Then the subsequent battering that and the other stifle will then take. And yes, as you say time is critical hence not faffing around. Cheers

It probably doesn't make a difference what op technique you choose for a dog of springer size, and the studies aren't clear.

Lateral suture, tta, mmp, tplo are all likely to get the limb back to pain free function if done competently and suitable post op rehab which will be the key determinant of outcome here. Also, get it done soon as possible, don't wait for 2-3 weeks for swelling to go down etc.

I treat a reasonable number of Springer Spaniels, both working and 'crazy pet' types and TPLO will regularly get these animals back to (observable) pre-injury function. The leg will never be the same as a 'normal' knee but you can give these dogs an excellent quality of life and many of them are able to undertake similar activity to pre-injury without seeming to become severely lame afterwards.

Not an orthopod but do treat a lot of ccr. The outcome will be case dependant but ive seen plenty working dogs who get back to complete normality following both TTA and TPLO.
