African pygmy hedgehog started with scabby ears, initially treated with xeno but no change. Was anaesthetised and found to have bilateral discharge. I've been led to believe that it's not great due to the large territories that wild hedgehogs command, which can't be replicated when kept as a pet.

Cause is unknown but inappropriate humidity, superficial fungal infections and mite infestations are most commonly blamed.

The Pseudomonas otitis is more of a concern if there is evident inflammation and discharge. I would sedate, do a thorough ear clean, instill drops based on sensitivity results and then get the owner to continue oral antibiotics at home. They are unlikely to be getting drops in reliably unless it is an exceptionally well behaved hedgehog and unusually competent owner!
