I am treating a 9year old cockapoo with well controlled diabetes. Two weeks ago he was brought in having bled through a tea towel overnight from the SC injection site on his neck area. it looked like a scene from Resevoir Dogs! He then proceeded

RE: Diabetic dog with subcutaneous bleed

Hi there,

This may be a long shot, but given normal coags and platelet number, it might be worth checking vWF.. there are a few reports of acquired vW disease in dogs, and there seems to be an association with hypothyroidism.. maybe worth checking?

RE: Diabetic dog with subcutaneous bleed

Thrombocytopathia a potential.

The coagulation profile did include haematology: the platelets were normal (manual count I believe).

He’s not on other meds except for topical (ocular) cyclosporine in one eye.

He has also had a surgery to remove a benign lump, which healed perfectly normally post op, with no concerns during surgery about haemorrhage.

Thanks,
