Any thoughts about it.... effective? side-effects? cost?

RE: Cytopoint.

I've used it in 5 dogs now. One diabetic JRT (11kg) with severe dermatitis that didn't respond to cyclosporin in the past and was barely comfortable on Apoquel. Cytopoint has greatly improved things for him.

One labrador (25kg)with atopic dermatitis - had been through all the usual suspects for treatment. Improved within 48 hours of the first injection and hasn't scratched since (4 injections given so far, I think).

One Westie (15kg)with the worst dermatitis ever and awful owner compliance. Jury's out on this one. He has severe secondary pyoderma so he maybe will improve more once this has resolved. He did best with steroids for his pruritis but developed iatrogenic Cushing's so this wasn't a viable long term option.

Another Westie with atopic dermatitis, sufficiently bad that he's had bilateral TECA due to the severity of his ear disease. Very difficult to medicate but cytopoint seems to be doing well for him. Still needs regular malaseb baths etc so it's not been a 100% fix for him.

A GSD (45kg) with dermatitis - again had been through everything else inc immunotherapy. Was doing okay on cyclosporin but not great. We've noticed an mprovement with Cytopoint but he still has pyoderma flare-ups and hotspots that need topical treatments like Cortavance and CLX wipes. Overall much more comfortable though.

So I would say 4/5 overall success and I'm not sure about the 5th.

Only two of the five are insured (the Lab and one Westie). We've priced it quite reasonably to encourage uptake and it doesn't work out much more than Apoquel, and not much different to cyclosporin.

Overall, I like it. I will use it again and would definitely consider it first line for new atopic cases.

RE: Cytopoint.
I gave it to one dog last week so waiting to see how it gets on.
That's probably true. Didn't stop me suffering a small heart attack when I dropped the vial on the floor (I find expensive things are more likely to break. Just me? Luckily, all was well)

RE: Cytopoint.
It is eye wateringly expensive (40kg lab).
