Some machines [ours years ago] had a meter readout which nobody used or realised unless told many times....

I think you can get devices that smooth and modulate voltages which you could fit between the X-ray power supply ie the 3 pin plug, and the mains supply. Ask RS Components.

RE: How to stop an x-ray unit from breaking. - Line conditioner?
This is a requirement and your RPA would have checked for this. The fuse board switch is normally sufficient if it's easily accessible.

RE: How to stop an x-ray unit from breaking. - Line conditioner?
We will have the power ring tested. I was however thinking of a line conditioner/UPS. The challange being making them work within RPA rules, ie, can turn off from inside and outside the room.

Does anyone here have any thoughts/solutions to hand?

Thanks

[/quote]

Not impossible - does the unit plug into the wall inside the room? a surge protector between the wall and the unit may be the easiest answer but like you are doing, i'd ask an electrician to go crazy on the power supply to see if you're having lots of surges or any other power issues first.

RE: How to stop an x-ray unit from breaking. - Line conditioner? I've never had a issue like this with any equipment (including computers which are a lot more sensitive to surges) and our X-ray generator is over 30 years old and still functioning well - it was serviced last month.

But I'm not sure what rules dictate you have to be able to switch off the X-ray unit from outside the room. I thought the only rule was that the warning light has to come on as you switch the machine on, our RPA is certainly happy with our setup. If need be I can flick the solenoid switch in the fuse box.
