I'm looking for some help/advice, please.
I've got a 15 yo ME terrier cross that I'd not seen before, and hasn't 'really been to the vet much before'. Sporadic vaccinations up until 2011 and no visits since then.

I've not done anything further on the cushings front, it's probably/possibly a false positive. The owner is content so I'll carry on like this for now.

A little embarrassing doing the stimulation test in the first place, if I was only going to ignore the result anyway!

RE: Cushing's Disease and Renal Failure

I'm sure I'm probably missing something, but isn't there a chance that renal failure would precipitate a false positive ACTH stim result?

RE: Cushing's Disease and Renal Failure

Thank you for your thoughts - much appreciated. The Cushing's seems relatively benign at the moment so I'm concentrating on the RF at the moment.

The dog is at the 'end-of-life management' stage due to a number of other factors, so events may well overtake any potential progression of the Cushing's. Nonetheless, if the pu/pd continues to be entirely unmanageable for the owner I might try Vetoryl.

RE: Cushing's Disease and Renal Failure

The renal disease could be being exacerbated by the increased cortisol floating around. But you're in between a rock and hard place. I won't die from HAC but it might from renal disease and will that get worse if you treat it or leave it? Discuss the dilemma with the owner and let them decide, toss a coin or refer it.
