I would like to do a desmopressin trial on a dog, but am uncertain how to administer it. I would like to give it into the conjunctival sac, but it comes in a nasal spray bottle, so it will have to

RE: DDAVP nasal spray - administration ??
Tablets not available last time I looked
Hi Shanley

Centaur has DDAVP nasal drops 0.1mg/ml.

Stefano
Maybe drops are available again then - worth looking into.

nasal spray or use oral tablets (although the absorption of the latter can be variable).
Is it best to avoid the tablets, or just that the dose may vary animal to animal?
The problem with the tablets is that there seems to be a lot of individual variation - some dogs will be well controlled on drops and not at all on tablets, or require very high doses in comparison with tablets. Plus sometimes there is day to day variation in control with tablets.

We do sometimes use them (usually if the drops prove impossible to administer) but prefer not to.

Also quite often we are trialling therapy to see if there is a response, so if we use the oral route we can never be sure if lack of response is due to wrong diagnosis or poor absorption.
I also found that the tablets were much more expensive than the spray when I looked into it last year when the drops were discontinued.
I agree this seems to be the case.

Yes you will likely need to transfer into a different bottle. They used to produce it in a dropper bottle but I believe this has been discontinued (or is at least not currently available) so you can transfer the spray into a dropper bottle, use it as a nasal spray or use oral tablets (although the absorption of the latter can be variable).
