Preferably self-inflating or otherwise appropriate so skin can be closed fully over it on placement without much risk of infection post-placement.

my prior experience of this was that the glue came off super quick (I only used tissue glue, not super glue) and was only effective when sutured the strips to the skin (which I would really rather not do in this case, but if tissue expanding is cost-prohibitive as I expect it is then might resort to this - and a stronger glue might get an outing this time).

I've got Pavletic's text and would be a much wiser vet if I sat down to actually read it some day rather than flick through the pages looking for a picture that matches the case in front of me

RE: Tissue/skin expander

There is also a technique from an american surgeon called mike pavletic which involves cheap velcro pieces. They are glued to the skin well away from where you want to create skin, connected by long velcro strips and sequentially tightened by the owner every day for 3 days. You end up with lots of newly streched skin for your wound closure.

I've never used it but saw him describe it at bsava. Google his name and you'll likely find more. The secret is to not tighten the strips too aggressively. Looks a lot less invasive than a subcut tissue expander

RE: Tissue/skin expander
I couldn't find anywhere to actually buy expaniderm
I couldn't find anywhere to actually buy expaniderm, but emailed both websites last week and waiting to hear back:

http://www.expaniderm.com/

I'm guessing sufficiently niche to be unreasonably expensive for my proposed use, but I guess if you don't ask you don't find out.

RE: Tissue/skin expander

As far as I know Expaniderm is the only one with veterinary use.
