Not sure if relevant, but in human medicine there is. I'm one of the south-west's major customers!
Interesting. We used to have both and settled on diazepam. Lasts longer
Really? I wonder if that is true of seizure control in humans, because if it is, I need to discuss with the doc.

RE: Diazepam or midazolam

Is anyone using the licensed diazepam product. We had our VMD inspection yesterday and we were told that a licensed product is available but the inspector had never seen it in a practice. I looked on my wholesaler's list and it did not seem to be there. It is called Ziapam.... is anyone using it?

RE: Diazepam or midazolam
I am unaware of a single advantage of diazepam over midazolam.
Interesting. We used to have both and settled on diazepam. Lasts longer, people more familiar with it in a critical situation (0.5mg/kg is one of the few small animal dose rates I keep in my brain). Works rectally either by owners or using the IV solution. Never felt the need to give it via MMs.

RE: Diazepam or midazolam

Midazolam is also absorbed by the nasal mucosa. But I don't think it is licensed to use rectally, and there is no oral form is there? Is there a large price difference?

Midz arguably safer in cats (re fatal hepatic toxicity), can be put in infusions (if you so wish), can be given IM without pain etc, no thrombophlebitis, miscible with other drugs in same syringe.

If I was picking one it would have to be midazolam. Last time I used the injectable diazepam the clinic also stocks was when we ran out of midazolam... I've never asked why we keep both, there are presumably some advantages to injectable diazepam or it wouldn't be available and folks wouldn't keep it.
