Its not as common as some of the guru's suggest, but we do see a few, and if you do not mention it sods law will pop up and bite you on the bum with a pet ferret that is priceless.

RE: Neutering Ferrets

The Cushings stuff is oft stated but overrated. Most ferret people in these parts just want the gil jabs and neutering is cheaper than implants so they take the risk because after all ,its only a ferret .

RE: Neutering Ferrets

Pretty much what Rob said- individual case decision based on owner and ferret situation. There are other threads on here discussing it in more detail.

P.s. Ferrets don't get Cushings syndrome, they get exogenous sex hormone secretion from hyperplastic adrenal glands

RE: Neutering Ferrets

[quote user="Jessie La Brooy"]My boss would like me to find out what the current recommendation is for neutering ferrets.
I guess I'd ask why you want to neuter - for reproductive control there's always vasectomy; if you do want to neuter I'd consider Suprelorin which can last yrs. Another take I've heard is that surgical neutering will give you all the benefits of chemical neutering and cushing's isn't enevitable, and if it happens then you can treat with Suprelorin...
