I agree, I would not assume equivalent absorption and serum concentrations by different routes, and if anything I would expect higher bioavailability from an injectable than an oral medication. For meloxicam as we don't have any guidelines for long-term injectable use, and as the long term oral dose is lower than the one-off injectable dose it seems sensible to use the lower dose long-term even if giving by injection.

We do it when they're hospitalised so I don't see why you couldn't carry on?

Always 'half dose' after the initial loading dose on day 1 though.

I haven't done it, but I don't see why you couldn't, we do it short term with hospitalised patients sometimes, and I would give at 0.1mg/kg, obviously get the owner to sign an off-license consent form.

Thanks Joyce, and did you continue at the recommended dose or tailor it to requirements? Not sure why warning bells are ringing with me on this one, I think it's just that I've never heard of anyone do it before.

Not done it with a dog, but have with a cat. Owner had a previous diabetic so she is happy to jab, and cat much more tolerant of that than anything oral.
