re digging... If making an area of garden for tiddling on, why not also make a sandpit or similar substrate for digging in? Dogs dig for different reasons from boredom relief to exercise (wearing a Dal out nigh on impossible!), to rollicking in the pong of fertilizer to digging up roots and eating them... So, maybe giving into the inevitable and preparing a section of garden for this spotted family member will make everyone happier?! Digging is a fun thing to do so long as it is safe...

I admit I pebbled over my entire garden eventually as this solved the problem of both issues your yard is suffering from. However, dogs old now so not much inclined to the bounciness and ambitions of youth, but I still do the dilution trick on the front lawn and encourage the digging in my local fields and woods. Australia here we come, hahah!

Thank goodness it didn't cross his mind to add these lovely whiskies to the dogs diet. I'd like to add the older MacAllans to your collection, unfortunately the good ones are no longer available/affordable.

Feeding dogs a couple of teaspoons of tomato juice every day was recommended on Gardeners' Question Time on Radio 4 last week.

Reward her for peeing on and area you'd prefer she used, bearing in mind she may become fixated on that area and not go elsewhere! Other than that a) she's a pup, b) she's a dalmatian...

It rains so much here that it isn't an issue here - except for this last week or so!

Agree about diluting area after having a wee. I believe in years gone bye the urine from pots from under the beds in large houses was diluted and used as fertiliser for the estate lawns??!!

Hi,

I used the juice from canned tomatoes to similar effect; also far less calorific.

I also pour a watering can half full of water over the spot where she eliminated. The water obvs diluted the urine and had the bonus effect of spreading the nitrogen in it as a fertiliser. Result? Lush lawn

A number of years ago a barman on Islay told us he used tomato ketchup in his bitches food. We've been using Heinz or Aldi's ever since to GREAT effect. Amount - any into every meal. Dog won't eat food without it. Mind you does put on the beef - at least my excuse. Give it a try.
