I think because as well as addressing the underlying autoimmune disease ciclosporine has a direct lacromimetic effect, therefore would be superior to topical steroids.

i did look online yesterday and see optimmune available for £26, hopefully most owners could afford that- I think we sell it for something like £85!!

I think prolonged steroid use is supposed to thin the cornea or something. Plus risk of Os getting blase and continuing to use if ulcer starting. We still use quite a lot for Os who can't afford Optimmune...the price of which is eye watering now.

think people do if the owners cannot afford the optimmune? Also use it where the KCS has already run to conclusion so optimmune ineffective and there is no longer tear production alongside artificial tear gel
