3yrs MN rabbit, very nervous but BAR. Lives with healthy mate. Eating keenly, occ fed separately as cage mate dominant. O not clear on pellets frequency

RE: Whats wrong with the bunny?!

Absolutely get it....being a fellow Scot!!

RE: Whats wrong with the bunny?!

Thank you for your hugely insightful answer Marie (as always!)....I'm glad it doesn't seem as if I've missed anything too glaringly obvious so far then....urinalysis tomorrow it is then!

Radiograph. I'm on a compact phone so resolution terrible. Don't add much weight to my interpretation. Bit gassy is the most I can see, noting exciting.

I tend to gently express as a preferred technique in males (females you are more likely to get repro tract contamination as urine pools in vagina) but am not concerned about needing to do a cysto, though I do like to have ultrasound guidance. If renal disease is present the also look at E. cuniculi serology and ultrasound of kidneys as I wouldn't expect degeneration at this age without something going on.

Rads show a lot of GI overfilling so this rabbit hasn't got normal GI motility - this is pretty non specific for a rabbit that isn't thriving and just means that diet/management/health are subpar. Again the anaemia supports 'something' wrong but not much help! The 100g weight gain may well be food pooling in GIT so don't get too hopeful! Get it on to a fibre-heavy diet to help support gut and encourage normal motility/faeces while trying to sort out the medical side.

What do you make of radiograph...?

RE: Whats wrong with the bunny?!

I'd be thinking good news that 100g up. Good start Then arrange urinalysis one way or 'tother. then reserve brain time for other patients and rugby until urinalysis back.

I usually squeeze rabbits for urine, gently. Or ideally house them in a bath with the plug in for a short period. Always a touch more retescent doing cysto than in cats. Cautious of damaging gi, I'm not sure if this is an appropriate concern though.
