After lancing I was asked about the dose of depocillin and frequency. I didn't know but advised look in the formulary....i however did mention an older vet

RE: Guinea pig - depocillin

can't help you to source the Chloramphenicol, as I'm based in Germany, but recent studies show that for odontogenic abscesses in guinean pigs a combination of this and metronidazole is most helpful.

RE: Guinea pig - depocillin

Had a reply back.

His opinion is also a straightforwark Do NOT use in guinea pigs or they will die. uses penicillin another in RABBITS

He preferred oral chloramphenicol for guinea pig odontogenic abcesses..

As a tangent. Does anyone else use oral chloramphenicol? If so where do you get it from? This vet had it compounded.

Just been at North American vet conference and this chap swears by it. ** (I need to double check he supports it in guineas as well ad rabbits) Daniel H. Johnson, Avian and Exotic Animal Care

Depocillin injectable and compounded oral chloramphenicol were his favourites for odontogenic abcesses. He was also advocating soaking synthetic swabs in Depocillin and suturing into accesses (this is a drastic Oversimplification)

I give q48 hours. Not aware of a q7d regime. That doesn't seem like it would work to me. Would be great for compliance though.
