I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for wall materials in theatre? We're currently in the process of building a new branch and can't decide what to cover our smallies' theatre walls in. Suggestions are plaster+ waterproof paint, or

RE: Theatre walls

What are you guys doing in theatre that keeps covering the walls or needs a drain in the floor?!

Ours are painted in 'tough' paint but not sure we've had to clean anything off them in the 6 months we've been in. A caesarian or GDV does make a bit of mess, but nothing I'd want to slush into a drain. V top table catches most mess. It is a good sized theatre, maybe in cheek to cheek with the nurse then might be more of an issue.

RE: Theatre walls

Yep plastic walls best as others have said. Dream to keep clean.

Drakn? Yep. Keep on flat. Away from table. Improves compliance with cleaning.

RE: Theatre walls

I would no have a drain in theatre and only in scrub area if completely isolated from theatre which may defeat purpose? Drained tables to catch as much spills as possible and ensuring as much as possible is raised off floor [cupboards floating 9-12" above floor) or mobile so everything can be moved for easy and full mopping; cove floors around any fixed objects.

RE: Theatre walls

Can I piggyback to ask those designing theatres what you do re drainage? Obviously want to be able to clean floor down, but also don't want a cess-pit of a drain contaminating theatre air. How do folks practically deal with drainage in their operating theatre designs? Have it outside the theatre door and have theatre floor gently slanted to let water run out that way into adjoining scrub room? Avoid a drainage and just avoid getting floor that wet and then towel dry? Have a "special" medical drain that is easy bleached and doesn't harbour nasties? Other obvious suggestion I'm missing? This'll learn me for never helping the nurses clean the theatre floor in previous clinics I worked in or I might have paid more attention to how they were designed with both cleaning and asepsis in mind!

RE: Theatre walls

We have PVC gloss sheets, they have joins but with a hygienic seal so can be wiped down or even steam cleaned.
We've now had two surgeries done with 'Protectorseal' https://www.kemtile.co.uk/products/protectorseal.shtml

It's not cheap but is seamless, nurse proof and vet proof. We have all our clinical areas done in it and even the thickest day old anal gland contents wipe off with one wipe.
