Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on the appparent increase in clients refusing bravecto?
I seem to have seen a large number in the last few weeks who are adamant that it either will kill their dog or cause liver failure.
Dog with neurogenic KCS and xeromycteria presenting for first time. Fortunately I had to collect histories from 4 other clinics re its other pre-existent medical issues and treatments, and had no pilocarpine drops to hand. Otherwise when it developed serious, subsequently fatal, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis the next day, I'm pretty sure I know what and who would have been blamed (and understandably so, I would have attributed it to my treatment also had I actually given it). It was a sober reminder that coincidences can happen.

[/quote]

I suspect it's because the dogs gain weight at a very fast rate in the first 6 months of life - if you give a 2kg puppy the under 4.5kg tablet and in 2 months he's 12kg, how effective is that bravecto for the last month? I blood tested that dog for other issues as was a chronic yeast case for many years I inherited to treat one year later-dog has elevated liver enzymens and wbc probably from chronic skin disease which made it an issue when then had to deal with additional medications-but not Bravecto but the systemic illness that was trying to kill the dog.
Yes! L4 is apparently the devil's work according to several clients. You'll love this:

https://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/report-lepto-vaccine-uk-dogs-dying/

"The Nobivac L4 lepto vaccine, which was rolled out in the UK by Merck’s UK subsidiary, MSD Animal Health, is reportedly causing adverse effects in the dogs receiving it, including epilepsy, swollen glands, blindness and death. [These scaremongers don't even mention mild swelling and local irritation; the most common adverse effect]

Reports say that since its introduction to the UK in 2014, over 2,000 reports of adverse reactions to Nobivac L4 have been received by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, which regulates UK animal drugs.

The vaccine is also suspected in the deaths of at least 120 dogs. [note no reference here!]

Just like the stray dogs in the UK, healthy dogs who come in contact with lepto may never show any symptoms. The news is such a surprise to UK pet owners that even UK tabloids are carrying the reports. [must be true then]

In affected dogs, symptoms can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, blood in the urine, lack of appetite and lethargy. In more serious cases, jaundice—a yellowing most easily seen in the whites of the eyes—can occur as the kidneys are affected. [genius]

And in most cases, leptospirosis is highly treatable when recognized early. Conventional treatment with antibiotics (typically Doxycycline) usually gives fast, good results and homeopathy is also very successful in treating lepto." [need we say more]
