Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on the appparent increase in clients refusing bravecto?
I seem to have seen a large number in the last few weeks who are adamant that it either will kill their dog or cause liver failure.
From the datasheet: Commonly observed adverse reactions in clinical trials were mild and transient skin reactions at the application site (2.2% of treated cats), such as erythema and pruritus or alopecia

RE: Bravecto for dogs

I understand there was an article in Dogs Today magazine that claimed Bravecto has been harmful to dogs. None of my clients have refused Bravecto so far.

Has anybody else had skin reactions using the feline Bravecto spot-on please? I have only used it on a few cases so far, but have had a localised hot spot at the site of application on 1 ginger cat.

RE: Bravecto for dogs

My sister (a vet too) has been using Bravecto in South Africa for a number of years and says it's been a revolution. The parasite burden in the subtropical area she lives is phenomenal, but Bravecto has been super effective and she has noted no significant side effects apart from the odd upset stomach.

The "Bravecto kills dogs" page is just another one of those histrionic "who can I blame for this tragedy" scenarios, I think. Possibly missed the fact that both dogs had a big sip of the antifreeze hubby left lying about the day before the visit to the vet... for example.

I've had a client blaming her dog's ear infection on the fact that he'd been castrated... 3 years previously!

RE: Bravecto for dogs

There has been a piece put in "my dog" or that that of magazine and an online story that I have seen. It appears to have stemmed from one person who has lost a dog and another "that might not pull through" blaming the bravecto.

Personally, not arsed. Data is pretty solid so I wont be changing my advice, but equally, im not msd! If people really don't want bravecto, fine, have Simparica monthly for the same job (unless you wan to split hairs!). or have comfortis and miss out on the extra cover.

appears to be the standard grrr big pharma killing our pets for profit line.

RE: Bravecto for dogs

There are certainly rumors going around about it between dog breeders with all sorts of weird claims. In Sweden there even is a facebook page dedicated to side effects from Bravecto.

RE: Bravecto for dogs

There is obviously something out there as I had an email from MSD quoting their safety data. They have even produced a 'just the facts' leaflet for concerned owners.

Reminds me of years ago when we had some clients refusing rimadyl as they were convinced it was going to kill their dogs due to some American websites which created a bit of hysteria.
