5m.o. Norwegian Forest Cat, had diarrhoea since owner got at 3mo. Large bowel diarrhoea with mucous and sometimes blood. Kitten growing well, full of energy

RE: Diarrhoea in kitten

and I would be treating with metronidazole for cat diarrhoea, not clav/amox - need something for the anaerobic and gram negative bugs in git, not treating gram positive bugs in the blood stream.

You may even get the protozoa if they exist.

RE: Diarrhoea in kitten

I think you have to go deeper than rectally?

Put a good mix of soil and compost in litter tray for a few days. There are fungi and other bugs out there we have no idea about in the magic mix of intestinal flora

Or you could try the intra-rectal faecal implant ?? Seems to be the rage on the human side

RE: Diarrhoea in kitten

The other possibility is a portosystemic shunt - the amoxyclav would have helped settle the colonic overgrowth. May be worth check liver parameters.

Given that the cat has diarrhoea, I would treat for crypto. I do agree that it does sound like classic Tritrich - though if PCR was negative I wouldn't treat for it anyway as the treatment has side effect risks for young kittens. Even dead Tritrich would show up on a PCR (if I remember rightly)

RE: Diarrhoea in kitten

PCR negative for tritrich

RE: Diarrhoea in kitten

Yes- I've seen cases of tritrichomonas present like this.
