From what has been said on here so far it seems that Bravecto will give you the cure as well as the diagnosis quicker and more positively than anything else.

And be cheaper.

Sacroptes usually can be diagnosed on distribution and appearance alone.

Checking the owners family for lesions is often the clincher.

RE: Current treatment recommendations for Sracoptic mange

Thanks all. I was considering Bravecto so that will be my choice. Dog hasn't been definitively diagnosed with Sarcoptes (I have noticed my glaring typo in the post title!), has had skin scrapes and biopsies by colleague, both negative, but lesion distribution and level of pruritus fits with Sarcoptes, so wanted a trial treatment that was 'safe' and didn't want to go down Aludex or ivermectin route without a def diagnosis.

As an aside, what is people's opinion of the IgG test for Sarcoptes? Does a positive just indicate exposure? Does a high level suggest current infestation? Does a negative rule it out? Haven't had time to ring the lab today to discuss the test. Will prob go with Bravecto and assess response. Some improvement in itch level with pred/abs, but gut instinct says not an allergy.

RE: Current treatment recommendations for Sracoptic mange

yes it may work ( I have used oral ivermectin at low doses for 6 weeks in the past in severe ongoing cases of demodex, under the advisement of a dermatologist) but surely not advisable nowadays as a first port of call ref: the cascade system.
