I currently have a 10kg cairn that has been admitted for severe pancreatitis on top of a pre existing diabetes mellitus and was wondering about ordering it in.
I am convinced that can be an effective antipyretic in dogs, so a pyrexic pancreatitis would get it from me.

I think ours is Actavis branded - cost to you should be about £1-£3 for a 100ml bottle (probably coming in boxes of 15 or something) as a rough ballpark for you. I would use an open bottle for same length of time you use open bottle of vetofol.

Some SPCs:

https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/27419

https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/14288

Can give slow intravenous (is quite a large volume of 1ml/kg with product we use I think) or have used SC as well without known problems and apparent efficacy (a previous BSAVA formulary had SC listed i think, but no longer does?)

There are oral suspensions available as well - not to be confused! But obviously can use these to dose patients via mouth/feeding-tube.

I suggest you put a large marker pen note on each bottle saying *KILLS CATS* if is new to your clinic to avoid mistake in pyrexic cat.

RE: Intravenous paracetamol

Hello,

We get IV paracetamol from Centaur, it's either generic paracetamol or Perfalgan. We use a dose of 10mg/kg and its 10mg/ml so bit time consuming drawing up for a massive dog! Very good as an adjunct/in cases where you want to avoid NSAIDs.

I haven't had any problems with it so far. I use it as an added pain relief in eg ortho ops and sole pain relief for gi surgery.

the glass bottles are a bit of a pain as they are clear and are supposed to be protected from light which is a bit odd. also it is a pain to draw a volume from the bottle and the best way is to put a second needle into the bung to relieve the vacuum otherwise it takes an age to get any out!

we keep it in stock as a routine now

regards
