Is there a figure as to the average spend per animal/year that insurance would cover?
I'm purely guessing where a turn over per vet is £200.000 / year, maybe there are 2000

RE: Average yearly spend per animal in a clinical practice that insurance will cover
You can budget for boosters, wormers and flea products, therefore 'what is the average cost of illness to a client in a practice?'
The insurance companies will have this answer. It's as good as any.

The other old old answer is put the quoted premium in an account and rely on a credit card for the first 18 months to boost any short term call, then roll over to next pet.

RE: Average yearly spend per animal in a clinical practice that insurance will cover
Why would a locum want to know this stuff?
Ownership...not in my case

Because insurance for many clients is starting to become untenable and so the question asked is 'how much do I need to save a month?'

We can all quote the £12000 cruciate or £800 splenic scan but these are just scare stories, so the question is simple but seemingly difficult to answer.

You can budget for boosters, wormers and flea products, therefore 'what is the average cost of illness to a client in a practice?'

Get these last into a loyalty scheme and they, like insured clients will spend more and be more bonded just a thought. Oh and we're looking for a turnover of £300-350,00 per FTE, so charge appropriately in order to earn the "p" word. You can work out average client spend from there.

So roughly £200 per client, but of course that's just an average. Probably about a third of them will do 2/3rds of your turnover (very roughly), there's always going to be a portion of your clients that you will only ever see for vaccinations and wormer.
