I am not totally clear why Vetasept products were are being withdrawn. As I read it someone had decided if they were to be used on animals, they had to be licensed. The associated costs would be more than the product is worth.

I may have got completely the wrong end of the stick so more than happy to be corrected.

I don't think the iodine products are that special but do occasionally use them. Used to use a lot on farms because the solution looked good!

Plenty of Videne on Ebay!

Is this problem due to the 'need' to get a veterinary licence as well as a human one? If so we should just be using a human product 'off licence'.

Apparently so, this was posted by a member of VetNurse who asked a rep:

Dear valued customer, As you may be aware, from the 1st September 2016, products containing povidone iodine can no longer be supplied into any EU market unless they have a registration under the Biocide Products Regulations or a Pharmaceutical Licence (Human or Veterinary).

That explains why vetasept isn't available, Trying to get hold of Videne Antiseptic Solution, waiting for NVS to phone back with info as its a special.

We use Vetasept (which is what it comes under on the NVS catalogue). Have just tried ordering one and it's gone through fine.

Search for povidone iodine instead - can't check wholesalers just now but you might have more luck searching for the generic than for branded betadine
