End of.

From a banner headline on this site I see 50%of pet owners don't brush their pets' teeth. that would suggest that at least 48% of the rest are fibbing.

I try really really hard to get owners with new puppies and kittens to start on tooth brushing as soon as possible. Very few do...does anyone get 50% compliance?

RE: pettura oral health
The VOHC seal is on the website (scroll to the bottom) and it appears on the VOHC website (accredited for tartar reduction). 'tis merely all I was pointing out.
Oh yes, got it now thanks, on the Directions and Ingredients tab.

The proof of the pudding, of course, is not in whether it slows down calculus formation nor even in whether it slows down plaque formation but in whether it improves or maintains periodontal health.

Does it? There's no VOHC seal on this website. In any case, VOHC simply tests and accredits the actual claims made by the manufacturers, in particular categories; if VOHC accredits it for calculus (tartar) reduction, that's all it accredits it for.
Does it? There's no VOHC seal on this website. In any case, VOHC simply tests and accredits the actual claims made by the manufacturers, in particular categories; if VOHC accredits it for calculus (tartar) reduction, that's all it accredits it for.

What else do they claim? Oh yes, "freshens the breath". That's not a health issue and one might even surmise that breath-freshening will be counter-productive by leading the owner to think that all is well with the teeth.

But hey, it's "drug-free". Man, it's got to be good.

Even the manufacturers seem a bit confused. At the top of the blurb they say that " Dental tartar is one of the leading causes of oral health issues which can lead to more serious diseases in dogs."

Er, no it isn't!

And caprylic acid is "anti-inflammatory". OK, I'll take their word for it, but what's the point of an ant-inflammatory if you are not doing something about the cause of the inflammation?

And "whey protein isolate" "helps prevent chronic periodontal disease". It does? Care to explain how?

Sorry to be cynical, but we've seen so many wonder dental products come and go.... no, some of them haven't gone, but that doesn't mean they actually work. Be especially cynical about anything that claims to work "without brushing".

I'd suggest that anything which requires the owner to slather a pleasant gel around the teeth every day is going to have a bit of a plaque-disrupting effect whatever it contains, and if it smells nice it may help owner motivation.

RE: pettura oral health

Well it has VOHC approval so I presume it does some good.
