It was bleeding from the nose, in shock, and weak. So it had some emergency care - fluids, analgesics, steroids etc. (i know steroids are controversial

RE: Dog kicked in face by horse

Thought you would have checked sight but I was once caught out with damage to optic chiasm despite reflexes intact so thought I would mention it . Shame , poor dog , but worth giving it time if owners can cope.
I don't see what a CT/MRI will bring to the table at this point - even if they were free and readily available. Perhaps at the time.
That`s exactly why I have`nt really advised them to go for this option..no point in spending 1000£ og more testing if there is`nt really something that can be "fixed".
It has good vision ion both eyes. Maybe I`ll consider some physiotheraphy, but the head is still severly tilted, and the owners are uncomfortable talking it for walks due to all the people asking questions and questioning the welfare of the dog etc.

RE: Dog kicked in face by horse

is there vision loss in one eye or even both , it can take a while for them to adapt to sudden loss of vision and many of the symptoms you describe would fit with this.

RE: Dog kicked in face by horse

I don't see what a CT/MRI will bring to the table at this point - even if they were free and readily available. My friend whose daughter was co-incidentally kicked in the head by a horse, had physio from a personal trainer who specialised in neuro-rehabilitation, and her improvement was exponential.

RE: Dog kicked in face by horse
Not sure what to advice further... but I think it is looking a bit grim.
I don't think there is anything else you can do with or without MRI/CT scans. We know the brain does have remarkable powers of recovery and things could improve for weeks, even months. My advice would be to apply the tincture of time if the dog's quality of life is acceptable and the owners are prepared to give it a chance.
