There are number of different products which do but this one doesn't. So panic over, cat is getting better and we can stop the Vit K. Should have known better than trust JGW!

RE: Possible rodent bait ingestion in a cat
One blood transfusion later, (done in an interesting fashion and not per any recognised guidelines
Sounds a bit like a dog with a haemo-abdomen I auto transfused with the blood I took out by abdo-centesis - strangely it doesn't clot. It had a ruptured splenic carcinoma which I no doubt seeded nicely but it was going to die anyway so at least it got another couple of months.
could you supplement via sc injection instead of oral? Could owner inject?
No. Interestingly I read that difenacoum is a lot less toxic to dogs and cats than other anticoagulant poisons and the amount a cat would eat is unlikely to kill it.

RE: Possible rodent bait ingestion in a cat

The onset of action can be incredibly quick- I remember a cat in Australia that presented with a persistently bleeding puncture wound on its lower limb. Treated as cat bite wound initially until it passed blue faeces- had obviously ingested a baited rodent. One blood transfusion later, (done in an interesting fashion and not per any recognised guidelines due to lack of equipment) and cat fully recovered. So I would keep the Vit k going for a while, could you supplement via sc injection instead of oral?
Call VPIS if you are a subscriber.

I have always found them incredibly helpful with information and advice.
Having established the active ingredient there is no problem in deciding the treatment we're just not sure if the cat took the bait or not. I've sent a blood sample for difenacoum toxicology but apparently unless you take the sample within a couple of hours on ingestion its left the blood. We think we got it within that time frame so if it comes back +ve bingo but if its -ve still can't be sure. Meanwhile the cat will stay on Vit K tablets albeit the owner is having difficulty giving them. I will check prothrombin time after we've stopped.

RE: Possible rodent bait ingestion in a cat

Call VPIS if you are a subscriber.
Thanks Jonathon. It is very negligent of them not to put the active ingredient on the packaging just says contains powdered corn cob. I've since looked on the website at the data sheet. I'm not convinced its the same product but its now had some Vit K until I can make further enquiries.

RE: Possible rodent bait ingestion in a cat

contains difenacoum
