In those cats, we either do in consult if cat happy to tolerate the cleaning or lightly sedate and clean up area then paint the aldara on.

We use tiny cosmetic cotton buds(buy in a packet at chemist) and have owner paint Aldara on with bud as seems to work well and stops owner being heavy handed but cream can just be rubbed on. Owner Must wear Gloves. We show them how to apply the first one.

They must be advised to stop the cat sunbathing-not because the ointment is photosen which it isn't but they need to start prevention. We see it worse here end of Winter as the colder weather means the cats can stay longer in the sunlight so more exposure. On a really hot summer day the cats will seek shade. Don't know how that holds for the Northern Hemisphere but as our Winter's day can be 10-19 then maybe that still is a Liverpool summer...

There are different regimes but the usual regime for cats is daily for 3 days on and 4 days off. You expect to see inflammation-that shows Aldara is working but in the odd cat if severe then back off for a couple of days and or observe how owner is applying the ointment-only had this happen once.

Treatment continues for 6-16 weeks until lesions resolve and dry up. (For perianal warts we used 4 on 3 off in dogs-50% success which given many not easy to surgically remove then one could consider it).

A box has 6 sachets in it-depending on how large your target area is, you can get 1-2 weeks out of each sachet if owner seals the packet back up each time and keeps airtight.

This is what our prescription instructions say:

Paint as shown onto the affected area once daily for 3 consecutive days each week.

WEAR GLOVES.

Stop application if inflammation is excessive- if in doubt, check back with the vet.
