It has now recurred again, a month after the second op. I used the pocketing technique, sutured with 6-0 vicryl, as I have been doing for years now,

RE: Cherry eye recurrence

1.ok ,yes strip the conjunctivalised membrane away before you tuck it in

2. the adnexal problems will keep causing irritation so a Bigelback or Stades maybe worth thinking about .

RE: Cherry eye recurrence

[quote user="grumpyoldman"]

Ok, interesting, just remove whatever portion I decide I don't like the look of?

look for other adnexal causes of chronic irritation like distichia trichiasis droopy upper lids with too much roll over.

It's an American Cocker Spaniel. I'd be hard pushed to find a square inch of skin that isn't droopy or rolled over.

compromise ,reduce the volume of the gland and anchor to the ventral rectus m , or the orbital rim . Double row continuous in the conjunctiva ,they mostly re-prolapse because of breakdown ,but look for other adnexal causes of chronic irritation like distichia trichiasis droopy upper lids with too much roll over.

As far as what I would do now - I would remove the gland. I believe that recent evidence indicates that it has less impact on the composition of the year film than used to be believed. But I'll await the brickbats....
