Had been seen 2 weeks before due to the owner being concerned about weight loss, but exam

RE: 6 year old MN DSH with DM now anaemic

Thanks Martin, I was starting to think that after posting. Unfortunately the owners decided to PTS due to the poor prognosis and difficulty of getting a blood donor.

They previously had two cats that had FeLV and renal lymphoma. We were going to test for FeLV just in case it was this prior to the owner requesting euthanasia. Potentially there's a fomite somewhere, or a local cat nearby shedding the virus.

RE: 6 year old MN DSH with DM now anaemic

I would have also wanted a fructosamine before I started insulin. Sounds like a Somogyi effect in a cat given insulin that isn't diabetic but has a massive stress hyperglycaemia. I would stop any insulin and go back to basics, get the anaemia sorted out before re-starting. As for preds, he's going to die from the acute anaemia before he dies of untreated DM or DM exacerbated by steroids.
