I've just taken a call from one of our ferret owners who is due to have her ferret vaccinated and has been told by an online ferret group

RE: Ferret anaphylaxis

[quote user="Niall Taylor"]

Mostly vomiting, anaphylaxis was rare in the one study reviewing ferret vaccination. It is freely available online via JAVMA if my attempts to attach it fail...

The ferret had been vacc before so a reaction wasn't beyond the realms of possibility. I've given the vaccine now and haven't heard from the owner so presume everything is ok. It did occur to me after posting that in the event of anaphylaxis an over the counter antihistamine probably wouldn't be much help anyway.

So presumably our ferrets may have better immune systems that don't go pop when faced with a vaccine, and you can't compare the two populations.

RE: Ferret anaphylaxis

Have vaccinated hundreds and never seen a single reaction- I still ask them to stay in the waiting room 20mins after vaccination as a precaution.
