She wasn&amp;#39;t put on long-term antibiotics, but years later needed open heart surgery due to faulty valves I don&amp;#39;t put splenectomised patients on long term antibiotics, but reading this thread made me wonder whether the valve damage was coincidence or not. Not something I&amp;#39;d thought before reading this.&lt;/p&gt;
