I use my phone. Sound quality's not bad, better if you put it in an empty pint glass should one be to hand.

I need music when operating. I miss it when doing large animal surgery. Maybe I need to put a radio in the cow caeser kit....

Unlike some others - I'm quite happy people asking me questions or chatting when operating. It's like driving - if it gets complicated I need quiet, but 99% of the time can crack on.

I too have noticed younger vets can't seemingly talk and operate.

80's cheese is my choice - I even bought an internet radio to find a particularly suitable station.

Does any one else use wireless headphones when operating?

I'm playing with a pair that link to my phone via Bluetooth, so can listen to whatever I like blocking out the world and pointless background tittle tattle. I can even listen to Iron Maiden without fear of upsetting the cats! Great.

In one sh1thole sweatshop low cost clinic I once had the misfortune to locum for it was so noisy in "theatre" that I had to wear headphones or ear plugs. "Theatre" was a converted garage with bare unplastered breeze block walls, and was also cattery, kennel, freezer room and communal area. There could be between 15 and 20 whining staffies at any one time. Where is the practice standards scheme when you need it?

I've never been a chatterer when I'm operating either, and hate it if I'm spoken to whilst operating.............unless it's something directly relevant to the patient

Having walked past operating theatres on a number of occasions and seen vets, part way through an operation, standing with instruments poised chatting to the nurses I completely agree!

I like Mumford & Sons, Wolf Alice, The Killers, but anything to avoid listening to the nurses tittle tattle. Can't resist the temptation to ring up and argue with the snivelling whingers on Jeremy Whine so the radio is banned.

I have read the post, and the study.

I am not convinced by it though, and would like to see more, and more comprehensive research before I accepted that heavy metal music was detrimental to cats in any way. For example the study only used 12 cats, and there was no comparison between different anaesthetic agents, different planes of anaesthesia or even differing volumes of music.

We're (Not I, the nurses I hasten to add) are playing it again this morning. no adverse effects seen so far.
