Can't offer any helpful advice, but it rather beggars belief that this animal has an identical contamination 3 x when (presumably) no-one else has had any contamination at all

In the words of " Judge Judy" ..." If it doesn't sound right then it's not right". My " boss" ( quotation marks say so much I feel) showed me blood results he'd got out Idexx haematology machine ( which is good) claiming the dog had no RBCs and a few eosinophils and that was all. He was trying to work-out what was wrong with the dog. Well, bearing in mind it was still alive I checked the blood tubes....and pointed out the massive clot in the EDTA tube!

My mother is a biochemist in a human hospital. They get this every day with EDTA contamination.

Have repeated sample after spinning it down in serum plain tube. Results wnls :)

In any case, I would agree with you - your clinical signs are not compatible with your result. You must treat the patient, not the numbers IMO. Until you find the cause of this, which is highly likely to be a lab error, I would treat the patient considering that your K+ is unknown.

Sometimes, a sample can be contaminated if you or your nurse put the blood in an EDTA tube/has hands/syringe contaminated with it, before the heparin tube is filled.

Sample taken three times in Li Heparin and run in Vetscan HMII machine.
