I've just had a CT report back on a cat with chronic rhinitis, and cryptococcosis has been mentioned as one of the main differentials. Nelson and Couto suggests it has

RE: Cryptococcosis

I would phone my lab and ask!

RE: Cryptococcosis

[quote user="Kate Richardson"]

Any idea where I can get the LCAT test done? Can't find it in any of the lab test lists we have and google wasn't much help either...

RE: Cryptococcosis

Thanks, Kate, that's really helpful - I will read more thoroughly later.

I was under the impression that asymptomatic carrier state was relatively common, so antigen detection wasn't definitive for diagnosis, although I guess if it's rare in the uk then presence of antigen would be highly suggestive of causation. I had read that cytology, histology or culture were the most definitive methods of diagnosis. Do you know if culture can be done on nasal discharge alone (ie sample taken conscious), or do we need deeper samples?

Do you know if the LCAT test is done on blood or nasal discharge?

RE: Cryptococcosis

Worldwide but rare in UK
