I can find some online references to Distemper, but wonder if that is more of an issue in animals mixing with lots

RE: Genet vaccination

Yes I think "display" is not a good word, I just couldn't think of an alternative! I'm going to ring them and have serious words about how advisable this is to have at their premises. They are a bit impulsive, and that is not always good. Their bird knowledge and care is excellent though.

RE: Genet vaccination

I've seen many genets in the wild - always nocturnal. Not sure what sort of 'display' they'd make??? Beautiful creatures.

We haven't seen a distemper case here for years, so I think the risk is likely to be very low. But I'll certainly advise them on habitat.

This forum is so useful...

RE: Genet vaccination

Genets are susceptible to canine distemper but vaccination decision will depend on geographical risk - here in West Midlands we still have sporadic distemper cases in wildlife and pets so I would advise vaccination. I give the freeze dried portion of the canine vacc (Vanguard 7) diluted with water for injection/vaccine diluent, one dose at 12wks or over and then boost q2yrs.

Also may be worth discussing that these are quite sensitive and stressy animals so if this is a noisy/busy environment then it may not be the best situation. Heavy planting of the enclosure and lots of off show hide areas will help but will mean that visitors may not see it!
