Owner reports this crusty lesion appeared on nose approximately 2 months ago, and since has grown and then dropped off a couple of times leaving a bleeding lesion before crusting over and growing again. I was thinking of removing the crust under GA and seeing what's underneath - checking for treponema is a good suggestion. Owner is generally not keen to spend too much money, so may end up trialling depocillin injections instead. Will try to remember to post updates in due course

RE: Rabbit nose

Like Marie I would excise it and subject to histology/cytology.
Rabbits can produce weird crusts with pyoderma but I haven't seen one quite like that. It could also be atypical Treponema or sone kind of epidermal dystrophy (resembles actinic porokeratosis seen in other species, mainly humans, but not aware of this happening in bunnies).

Is it loose? If so I'd be tempted to remove the horn part and take some cytology impression smears and gentle scrapes from the base, and request additional silver stains for Treponema. That will help with cause but I'd also take a swab and keep the horn itself in formalin in case no clear cause is seen on cytology.
