I have a 16year old cat that has had 2 clots so far and has been on plavix after first one in 10/2014, then swapped over to clopidogrel 3/2016 and now refused to take the tablets, He is ok with semintra and methimazole gel on his ears, but

RE: Liquid clopidogrel/other anticoagulant for cats
Treatment, sorry. When cats present with an ATE, I've seen cartrophen used instead of heparin with good outcomes.
I once dived in and surgically removed a saddle thrombus in a cat presented minutes after onset with the wife as anaesthetist in the middle of the night. It worked and it survived for another 10 years with no recurrence. I was young and adventurous then and probably very lucky as the association between FATE and cardiac disease was barely recognised 35 years ago!! Not had the case, or the courage, to do it again.

RE: Liquid clopidogrel/other anticoagulant for cats

Treatment, sorry.
Prevention or treatment? For the latter, that an animal presenting with an ATE given cartrophen got better, can we know if it is the cartrophen helping?

RE: Liquid clopidogrel/other anticoagulant for cats

Another drug that can be used for ATE is cartrophen - 3mg/kg i/v every 6 hours.
