I recently did either my first one or my first for a few years (I genuinely seem to forget if I've done one before every time I see a rat/ferret/guinea-pig castrate and I must have done all of them!) and did exactly that, with tissue glue to close. There was a huge amount of dead space left compared to a rabbit though so I did wonder whether I should have put subcut sutures in too, but was worried about him trying to chew them out. Healed fine anyway.

RE: rat castrate

[quote user="Gillian Mostyn"]

That sounds fine - it is very straight forward and you'll be fine.

I recently did my own two rats at approx 7 weeks old- I managed to get both testis out through a single scrotal incision, and then just used a bit of glue to close the hole. They have healed AOK.
