Any ideas on what these might be? Almost look like little blisters at the mucogingival junction on the upper jaw. Found by a colleague on induction of GA for enterotomy. After discussion with the owner it seems that the dog (9 month old

RE: Oral lesions

I had wondered about some form of contact reaction but it seemed odd that these were localisd to just along the mucogingival junction. Would you not expect a contact reaction to show elsewhere in the oral cavity as well e.g. tongue. We round no other lesions.

RE: Oral lesions

Cytology swab would be interesting - have met eosinophilic reactions in canine oral mucosa before but may just come back as chronic inflammatory! Contact reaction to something being eaten/chewed possible given history - hydrolysed diet and supervision when out in garden during recuperation and monitor at revisit? Topical dentisept may help reduce bacterial burden / secondary inflammation

RE: Oral lesions

Difficult to see well from photo, but could they be foreign body reactions (thinking spiky plant material, ?hedgehog spines...). I'm thinking the gingiva would be more resistant to penetration, but the softer mucosa may have been penetrated by chewing on something spiky. If persistent and problematic then biopsy would be interesting, though I suspect they will sort themselves out.
