&lt;p&gt;With the fluid aspiration and respiratory compromise&amp;nbsp;there may be congestive heart failure - often associated with diffuse submandibular and ventral oedema and not at all&amp;nbsp;unusual in elderly guinea pigs.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Streptococcal infections are often associated with lymph node abscessation in GPs. A large submandibular mass would most commonly be abscessation (external trauma, dental disease, lymph node abscess but although a rare finding at this site primary neoplasia and mets to lungs can&amp;#39;t be ruled out.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Pneumonia is a common secondary consequence of debiliatation/dysphagia or primary pulmonary disease such as adenovirus or neoplasia.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;All speculation though without any diagnostics. Could be all of the above or something else entirely!&lt;/p&gt;
