Lambing has started at home and our first ram lamb- born on Saturday- has some urogenital abnormalities:
- has two scrotums each with a normal feeling descended testicle - fine, I just put one ring round both caudal to the nipples as usual

RE: lamb hypospadias/ non patent urethra?

Sorry it's plastered in iodine...sloshed a bit around before I cysto'd it.
It is completely impossible to catheterise a make lamb or calf's urethra due to the pelvic flexure in the penis:

A perineal urethrostomy is quite easy in an older animal but I have never done one in a lamb. Could it have had a persistent urachus?

RE: lamb hypospadias/ non patent urethra?

Tried to upload photos for you but phone not playing ball

RE: lamb hypospadias/ non patent urethra?

Well, we euthansed him. Vet put a needle into the little pouchy blind end of penis..no urine back and nowhere that felt like you could easily feed a catheterm We did briefly consider gassing hin and slitting caudal to the scrotum to see what happened but the target felt very small and we decided too hard on him to experiment.

RE: lamb hypospadias/ non patent urethra?

I'd at least try doing him like a blocked tom cat
