Exhausted after a 12 hour microchipping marathon, but it was a beautiful day, in stunning scenery. Yes I am frustrated that people left it so late, but I don't think there has been much in the general press (vs veterinary press), but I was pleasantly surprised that the general spirit at the clinics was really good, with people being patient despite long queues, and lots expressing gratitude for us going out on a limb.

RE: Chips galore!

To be honest I thought the same!
No, but had several requests for exemption certificates. Apparantly, it has to be an approved form, signed giving reasons and length of exemption if not life long.

I've refused all requests so far.

(Please visit the site to view this file)

[/quote]

Thanks for the link. I am going to issue an exemption for one dog, a chihuahua pup with a machinery murmur that is unlikely to live much longer - and its about as big a cupcake.

But to people who simply don't want to do it, i have advised that while it is their decision to flout the law, their risk of being caught is minimal, and even if they are they still have 21 days to comply before being fined.

While I approve of chipping in general, and agree all dogs should be chipped, i was never happy about it becoming compulsory, as the powers that be already fail to enforce existing laws. I doubt very much that any toe rags with fighting dogs will get prosecuted over this, more likely it will be little old ladies with elderly Yorkies.

RE: Chips galore!

I know it's a slight tangent, but I've been trying Martin Atkinson's recommendation to chip with the needle going caudally (inject from the head) It's been a complete revelation and I would thoroughly recommend it even in the wriggliest animal.

Nothing. If the government suddenly found the money to enforce the legislation (and it won't) then at worst they get a notification to get the dog chipped in the next 3 weeks and only if they fail to do that have they committed an offence.

I'm sure she has better odds of winning the lottery.

RE: Chips galore!

We have someone in just now who refuses to chip their dog, saying she's too old - even though she's in for a dental under GA! Anyway, we ran out of Dogs Trust chips, and have had grief from people who turned up saying "Dogs Trust say you'll do it for free"

Conversation usually goes 'yes I know the exhaust is hanging of and the tyres are bald but the MOT runs out in 2 days, can you do it please?
